590 Students In Federal Territory Receive RM177,000 To Return To Egypt

PUTRAJAYA, March 13 (Bernama) — A total of 590 university students from the Federal Territory studying in Egypt received a total contribution of RM177,000 as aid to return to their respective universities in Egypt.

Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said the contribution was to ease the burden of the students after they were forced to return home following the political unrest in Egypt.

“Most of them had still not returned (to Egypt) and are expected to do so very soon,” he told reporters after a tea-party in conjunction with the Federal Territory Day 2011 celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya, here.

More than 6,000 residents of the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan attended the gathering organised to fete representatives of resident associations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), political parties, government departments and agencies, the private sectors as well as individuals from all the Federal Territories.

It was also held to honour those who were conferred Federal Territory Awards and Medals by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin on Feb 1 at the Istana Melawati here.
